Since the launch of the Retina Macbook Pro on Monday I have received over 130 emails asking me on my opinions and would I buy one. Well I am here to answer the question that many people have been asking me since Monday.
I do like the Retina Macbook Pro but the issue I have with the machine is that you cannot upgrade the components yourself. This is why I don’t really like the Macbook Air. But I have seen and been on a Retina Macbook Pro and it is mega fast and is fantastic. But I would not buy one. While the two thunderbolt ports, USB 3 Ports and HDMI Port are fantastic the screen lets it down. I would buy it if it came with a anti-glare screen like the previous 15″ Macbook Pro (optional extra). I do like an anti-glare screen as my desk is by a window and the sun comes through the window for around 6 hours in the morning and bounces on my screens. If I used a Retina MBP on my desk the reflection on the screen would really annoy me, I know Apple have improved the glass to be less reflective but you can still see a reflection in it.
I would however buy a regular 15″ Macbook Pro with the Hi- Res, Anti-glare screen because I do like the screen on it. I would also upgrade the components to my own specs to make it a true power machine. I would have two OCZ SSDs in a RAID format inside (both 256gb) I will also upgrade the RAM too to a whooping 16gb (not as much as my desktop at 32gb). I do think this will do nicely for what I want. I am looking at getting a Thunderbolt display to connect to it and to use with my current mac Mini (which I need another as the motherboard is not working correctly But it is 2 years old now) and then I could use it with the Macbook Pro.
I do like the Retina Macbook Pro, it is a great machine but it would not fit in with my life so I would buy a regular Macbook Pro instead.
