A EU law states that all products sold should have a minimum of a 2 year free warranty by default. Apple have had to agree to this law as this can stop the product from being sold in the UK. So now you get 2 years rather than 1. But there are a few issues you can only get this warranty if you buy a product from an official Apple Store or on the online Apple Store. But you do not get this warranty if you buy an Apple product from another retailer like Amazon, so you are stuck with the standard 1 year. But eventually they will have to agree with this law.
